I keep a bunch of my bikes there so if it's not being ridden, it'll be there most of the time.

I've been picking away at this in my ADD way. A little bit of this a little bit of that working on 9 different things at one time. I never posted an update because I hadn't finished any one task. Anyhoo, heres an update.

I pulled the the clutch perch. It came from a 94 magna. I cut the mirrir mount and the mount for the clutch switch off of it. Won't be needing those so those ugly lumps had to go. Quick shot with some black paint and she's ready to ne remounted.

photo3-59.jpg

Started working on the wiring. Filling up the starter compartment with a bunch of stuff. Made a mounting plate for the coil which will be sitting on the back of the motor.

photo1-19.jpg

The covers for this engine are going to be powdercoated a translucent red and I don't want to mess it up this summer. I got my hands on some stock covers to cut down. Fixed the chrome with some black paint.

photo2-76.jpg

I've also been working on getting the baffles out of the pipes before I start filling the holes. They are stuch purty good. Giving be a hell of a time. I may end up cutting the pipes to get them out and then welding the pipes back together.

I'm going to try to get some stuff done today, but it's easter so the missus probably has other plans for me.

Sounds like it may be easier to whack the pipes short of the baffles and put a new section in. Then the rust is gone as well !!!! lol

That may be what I have to do. I'm just stubborn and really want to try to save these pipes. What'll happen is that I'll either figure out the right combination or I'll be irritated after work, finally get frustrated, and they'll end up in the trash. lolol.. The fate of these pipes rests solely in my boss's hands.

Didn't get much accomplished on easter. Just gave the valve cover a krylon bath.

I'd like to ride this one. That's the plan right now. I'll have it running with the new engine in time. I'm just not sure that I'll have it broken in properly. I'm not one to be shy with the throttle so if it isn't ready to really run I'll be bringing something else too. This one will still come for the Saturday night run downtown, but I'll bring another for the dyno drags and the long rides with the group.

Yard work interferred with getting any real work done today. I did manage to shave down the stator cover and squirt it in black. forgot to snap a pic. I'll get one tomorrow.

I have every intention on being there. It's going to take a major catastrophy to keep me away.

Been chipping away at it. I've gotten two of the four baffles out. The other two are soaking in PB Blaster.

Got the coil mounted.

Finished a couple of engine covers. Should have that buttoned up tomorrow.

Spent some time buttoning up covers and whatnot. I've had some covers there, but just loosely in place to keep out the crud. Changing to the stainless fasteners and putting the gaskets in place. Just cruising along, going smooth as silk when Murphy and his &$^% law rear up and kick me in the ass. A couple of bolt holes for the valve cover were previously heli-coiled and the insert is just pulling out like a slinky. Time to take the head back off for more repairs. If the theing wasn't already ported and polished I'd chuck the @$@$@ in the trash.

Anyhoo, going to get the wiring started and front end rebuilt while waiting for the inserts to come.

A few things to update.

My buddy Nate made me some new stainless springrods. They arrived today. Awesome job, they look fantastic, but I forgot to shoot pics.

Cwheelin sent me a cam/breather cover. Wouldn't let me even pay for shipping. He's a good dude and has helped me out more than once. Guys like him are such an added bonus to this industry/hobby. I unpacked it and let the spray can do it's magic.

I am going to be running a pair of mikunis from cycle X. I usually drill and tap the intake manifolds for vacuum ports so that they can be vacuum synched.

photo2-78.jpg

Did some other little stuff, but didn't do pics. The details can wait until it is done.

Ordered the timeserts to repair the valve cover bolt holes.

Ordered a chunk of exhaust pipe to repair the pipes.

My aquisitions specialist hard at work:

It's been a pretty hectic week at work so progress has been slow. Here are the aforementioned springrods. They are awefully purty, but You won't really be able to see them once installed.

photo3-61.jpg

I bought the carbs for this motor a year and a half ago. They've been sitting on the shelf waiting for the call. In moving things around though, someone hid a couple of the boots from me. If I ever catch the bastard who sneeks in there at night and rearrainges things, he will not be a happy fellow.

The timeserts for the valve cover bolts came in, so I'll be pulling the top end apart again tomorrow.

Mynameismudd came through for me with an outer clutch cover. You guys already know it, but I'll say it anyway. That is a good guy right there.

\Thanks Mudd

I unpacked and painted it this afternoon.

photo1-22.jpg

It started raining while I was trying to get the grass cut, so I got annoyed and started working on the exhaust. I finally got them out, but I had to split two of the pipes to get them to break loose. I'll weld them back together when I repair all of the bad spots.

more tomorrow

I ended up spending yesterday doing yard work so I finally got to the motor today. Took the top end apart again. I figured that since it was off I had better check all of the threads. Then just for good measure took a good look att he cylinders too. I ended up time-serting 7 valve cover bolts in the head and two of the small head bolts in the cylinders. I haven't gotten it put back together yet, that'll be a couple of days. I don't like the look of one of the oil control rings so I am going to be waiting a couple of days for a hastings delivery.

Work has been stupid busy so I finally resigned myself to the fact that I am not going to get anything done there. Drug it home this week so that I could make some progress over the holiday weekend. Got the springer torn down. Cleaned everything up and picked up some new hardware. No pics, but I'll take some in the morning during reassembly.

No pics today. Too focused on making progress. Engine is back together. Next step is to get the bike up on the lift and start getting it prepped for the engine swap.
