Fancy Nancy - 1996 Springer

6 posts in this topic

So this is going to be a very slow starting build. Should get fun this coming winter and spring. Wife bought me this 96 Springer for our 10 year anniversary, so I've been putting around on it for about 5 years now. Slowly yanking stuff off.

We're going to strip it bare this fall/winter and start over from scratch making a proper chopper out of her. For now I'll walk through the stuff that's been done so far.

First thing I did was yank the wide bars in favor of some Biltwell Keystones and Biltwell risers with loonynum tubing spacers. Yanked the Mustang "Fat Elvis" seat in favor of a LePera. Swapped the pipes for a set of two in to 1 that my friend Paul gave me. Off came all the goofy Kuryakn doodads too.

Speedo and turn signals stopped working, I put a new speed sensor on, but no worky worky still. Think it's the signal module, but that's $80 that I just haven't pulled the trigger on. So I yanked the speedo and signals and fabbed a sheet metal dash. Didn't like the dash as much as I had hoped, so yanked it back off.

By bud Jeremy Cupp at LC Fabrications built a solo seat pan kit for Softails that he now sells online, hooked me up big-time with the prototype. I finally got around to covering that last month.

So yep, that's about all so far. Nothing too exciting, but I ride the he'll out of it, and she beats me to death so why not chop it. Here are some pics for now.

Oh yeah, the leather work I've decided to make a hobby business out of. Also do some other random art, antique restoration/refurbishing, and woodcraft. Check it out on Facebook and give it a thumbs up if you dig it at Appalachian Handcraft.

Thanks man. I was originally planning on doing apes, but these bars have zero flex and feel perfect. I fell in love with them after the first ride.

Howz this one comin along?

Slowly, I'm trying to get some more riding in with all this unusually warm weather VA has been getting this fall. Took a trip with some friends to a place called "the Pines" for some moto camping. Took another screw off day to just ride around all day, came across a friend on the road doing the same thing. Soaking it all in while I still can.

Also been busy as hell fixing the wife's 2000 Jeep XJ and our 1968 K10 for the past few weeks. Soon as the weather gets nice and cold we'll pull it in the shop and strip it down for chop chop chop. The fuzzy guy at the picnic table holding the stogie in the pics is me. 78eebb9a8411b3d0f4b0a5590388b203.jpg3adccf6283fdb878cbda4c900ca85e6e.jpg3c48f2f21faa528e5c89b8217a4ed6ae.jpga4b80f5c5a0666f4d3fb0d6a39598f89.jpg9983e83b5d9f9f78da809ade4839b05d.jpg834878ab01e2398a503ef9658536bf36.jpgb91458d10bf5a3feb830efd335b7b866.jpg
