Well, yall might remember a short thread I made about a CBX basket case I put together from several laundry baskets and a cardboard box last summer.
http://www.thechopperunderground.com/forum...c=31037&hl= I came across a backyard built frame that pretty damn long. It was set up for an HD motor but obviously was never on the road. There was unfinished welds and welding booger everywhere. Shit, it looked like I made it!!!! So I cut the mounts off and decided to dry fit the wheels, front end and engine to see if this was a viable project. ![]() ![]() ![]() Thats a cb750 front end on there for mock up. Its too short but gave me an idea what this thing would look like. -------------------- Too busy to create another profile page so see here: http://jpswino.u.yuku.com/

Yeah, okay, I like it. Lets put the 2001 Ironhorse front end and 21" inch wheel and see if that does the trick
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yep much better. The rear wheel is a cb750 sohc Honda hub laced to an Excel 6 inch rim with a Metzeler 200. It barely fits! There is gonna be some serious planning to make the offset of the 79'CBX motor work with a different offset earlier Honda drum hub in a frame originally set up for HD. My first foray into this area. Any frame I have worked with before had the motor mounts in already. -------------------- Too busy to create another profile page so see here: http://jpswino.u.yuku.com/

Well, its time to start cutting the frame to make the CBX "fit" properly and sit much lower in between the frame rails rather than on top like in the mock up.
There is some serious ugly booger welds that need cleaning and many spots where welds are flat missing. ![]() ![]() ![]() So out the motor comes after a little measuring and deciding how to mount and where to cut in order to make the motor sit lower in the frame.

So I decide to remove the front tabs completely from the most forward position but leave the actual rail in place as I think I can sink the motor enough that the forward facing oil filter will sit below this position.
![]() If you are not familiar with how a CBX mounts in stock form here is a pic. It actually hangs from the top with no "cradle" to sit in. So how do I mount it in a traditional cradle fashion? ![]() This next cross rail which is the forward most rail on the flat was clearly in the way if the motor is to sit low in the frame. But after a closer look on the motor I found some sort of mount hole, for what I am unsure, but its there. Look close and you will see it. There is one on each side. We gotta use it! So that cross rail will only be trimmed so that I may use a portion of it from each side to reach in and grab the motor like as a forward mount. ![]() ![]() The second rail on the flat will be cleared completely from the frame. Its in the way and really poses no loss being gone since this motor will now tie the rails together anyways. ![]() -------------------- Too busy to create another profile page so see here: http://jpswino.u.yuku.com/

There is this giant flat plate where the HD tranny sat. I kinda like it there so thats cool but I need to notch it for the rear portion of the oil pan to clear.
![]() You will see in this pic the CBX has a lower and upper bolt that goes completely through the engine from side to side for rear mounts just like on the inline fours. ![]() I plan to make a short stub mount coming up off the plate for the lower and extend a cool looking arm coming off the seat post for the upper mount similiar to the way Cycle X does their boxer frames. I'm holding a socket and extension in this pic about where it will go.

So after having the motor in and out a number of times to make sure my plan will work I do the cutting and clearing.
It looks like this before ![]() and then after ![]() Now its time to break out the cutting wheel, then grinding wheel, then flap wheel and clean this whole damn thing! ![]() The rear axle plates were cut with a straight blade in a see-saw nip a little at a time sort of fashion! Damn that shit is gonna be either real ugly or need a whole lot of filler! I'd better grind first then flap wheel that real quick. Now look at my curves! I smoothed the curves in the front as well. ![]() ![]() So I still have a lot of booger to clean around the battery box and I started to smooth in the plates that were welded onto the side of the front neck area. ![]()

I still have a bit of frame clean up to do. Then I'll do the JB Weld body filler trick because I want to powder the frame. Or if anyone has a better suggestion for body filler under powder, let me know!

That thing is the super drag monster lookin' machine! Killer detail on the dual downtube and battery box, and with the chassis set and the big ol' six, she looks like a beast. The right exhaust set up and you can have that baby screaming like a dragster. I'd put flame throwers on that bad boy too!

I really like your bike but have one question. How tall are you? I mean I am 5'8" and I dont think I could reach the bars from the seat, you must be 6', or is it an optical illusion? Kinda how I look fatter in pics than real life.

Yep 6 foot with 31-32 inseam and pretty long arms. But HELL YES, I need pull back style bars!!!!!
From the joint where the seat tubes come together to meet the back bone, along the back bone to the neck is gotta be about 34-36 inches. I don't remember off the top of my head but I know I was originally looking for a 29 inch tank, which would not fill the entire area. Since then I have decidied to make the tank from two tubes joined together for a somewhat industrial look. Hey Maxx, show me a pic of what you mean. I am unsure how that will look on and inline motor, especially with 6 (3 on each side)!!!! -------------------- Too busy to create another profile page so see here: http://jpswino.u.yuku.com/
